Siblings Duel
Tears of an Angel and Andrew Martin
Tears of Blood and Alex Shade
Dry Your Tears and Jessie Coppermen
Lucy on the other hand would be returning next season and she was there to claim the title of top older sprinter mare. Of course, she’d have to contend with Crowned Queen and Allouette Divine for the title, but if the past was any indication, she was likely to brush them aside. After all, she was one of few G2 two year olds ever to run at TW and GHF. Her personality was very similar to that of Tia’s, she was very content with where she was at the moment and she ignored her twin brothers grumpiness, something she tended to do often.
Alex pulled Tears ahead of everyone to avoid him biting someone or lashing out at them, and Lucy and Tia were quickly at each others sides. They looked nearly identical except that Lucy was slightly smaller in size, but not by much at all. As a matter of fact, all three of the siblings looked nearly identical. The only thing setting Tia apart from her older siblings was her lack of a sock on her right hind leg.
Tia had only been raced 8 times in her short career but she had talent to burn, there was little doubt about that. She had several HOTY races under her belt and after a few workouts with Grayson Meadows she was prepped and ready to make her comeback and do it quite impressively. Her next race was going to be over a mile on the turf against Vetanda and Sea Siren. Both horses would give her a run for her money come the time but Tia was prepared to take them head on. The race would be slow, all of them preferred to close so it was likely that someone was going to be forced on the lead. whoever that was would likely be whoever broke the fastest.
Lucy would be trying her stuff against ironically another sibling of hers next week, Loud and Clear, a filly who could hold her own against the boys, but as could Lucy and it was no secret that she’d been running very well over the past couple of weeks. Her old form was returning to her, but like most things, it took time.
Tears would be heading into the end of the year dirt sprint or even the breeders’ cup sprint, which was a very big possibility right now with how well he’d been running to Mastermind in his previous outings. It was a wonder how he would hold up against Forbidden To Fly, and team Grayson Meadows may just get to see the matchup. He’d be retiring, and with essentially only one race left, Alex planned to make it a good one. Tears had a great chance of upsetting Forbidden To Fly in the Breeders’ Cup.
The trio warmed up together and then they headed for the gate. They all loaded without issue, for the most part. Tears was a bit hesitant to enter the gate but he never really put up a fight, nothing like Passion Heart had earlier that day.
They paused for a moment before the gates flew open and the three of them broke cleanly out of the gate. Lucy, the quicker of the bunch style-wise, broke on top, quickly putting a length ahead of her two siblings. Tia followed suit with Tears just a head behind her, biding his time.
Dirt splattered Tia and Tears’ faces but they didn’t seem to mind the kickback of each of Lucy’s long strides. Tia and Tears started a small duel, switching between 2nd and 3rd a few times before Tears held himself back again, allowing Tia to regain her head lead over him. He settled in nicely and just went on autopilot. Tia focused her energy on Lucy and was very well aware of Tears presence on her outside, she was sandwiched in the middle of the two, but because she was so narrow it didn’t seem to bother her much.
The final turn was fast approaching and Tia started making her bid, and Tears followed just behind her. Lucy was still holding onto the lead and started picking her own pace up and when the stretch opened she pushed off of her heels in an attempt to sprint away from her two siblings but Tears came flying out of no where and cut into her lead, Tia following him quickly. Lucy was holding onto the lead but Tears swallowed her up, and bore down on his twin sister, flying past her as he hit another whole new gear. Tia followed after him and locked up in a deadly speed duel with her older sister. Tears crossed the wire a very strong three lengths ahead of his sisters and they came in just a head apart. Lucy just barely held Tia off, the filly was eager to run and it was with little doubt that with some more work and experience the filly could be exactly like her older siblings.
